Does Knowledge Loss Really Exist?

Knowledge loss in companies keeps coming up. Whether it affects you depends on your day-to-day business. These questions help you find out.

New vendors keep showing up and talking about knowledge loss in companies. Yet companies should know best whether they are losing knowledge. Or so you would think.

In fact, many companies don't know exactly. Others know very well, but don't find the right solution for it. To prevent knowledge loss, the key is to recognize where it actually happens. That depends on your day-to-day business and on the industry you work in.

Do you have workflows that are always the same? Are they written down anywhere? Could you hire a new employee tomorrow and teach them everything digitally, without assigning a manager to them? Or do they have to be trained on a machine, where that only works on site? If so, have you at least captured your employees' experience of which problems often came up with the machine, why it stood still or why it so often needed maintenance?

Who can list the problems that came up in the past, right off the top of their head? Often you don't even know they exist, because your employees have simply solved them out of habit over the last few years. Those are exactly the processes you need to capture.

If your employee leaves tomorrow, can someone else take over right away? Or does everything come to a standstill for a week? These are the questions you have to answer, either today or someday, when it inevitably catches up with you.

We're happy to show you how to capture this knowledge with NaviLearn in a demo.
